The Marriage Preparation Process

In order for your wedding preparation to go smoothly, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

1) Contact the parish secretary at least 6 months before your proposed wedding date to schedule a meeting with the priest that you would like to witness the ceremony.

2) Have an initial visit with the priest during which a tentative wedding date may be set and you will receive information regarding the Church's understanding of marriage as a Sacrament and other pertinent information regarding the preparation process.

3) Set a rehearsal date by contacting the wedding coordinator; Dora C. Morales at (818) 845-6877.

4) Turn in all necessary documents no later than a month before the wedding date.

5) Contact the Director of Music; Michael Wooldridge at (818) 559 6313 to plan your music selections.

6) Attend the Engaged Encounter weekend retreat.

7) Plan your wedding liturgy and fill in the Prenuptial Investigation forms.

8) The wedding rehearsal.

9) The wedding.


Archdiocesan Requirements:

1) A recently issued Baptismal certificate (within the last six months) for each Catholic person. Regarding non-Catholic Christians, any certificate of Baptism is acceptable.

2) If one of the parties is not a Catholic, proper dispensation needs to be obtained.

3) Copies of your First Communion and Confirmation certificates (if applicable).

4) Four sworn and notarized Affidavits of Freedom regarding your freedom to marry in the Catholic Church for both the groom and the bride (2 for each). Those chosen to sign the affidavits must be close family members: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, or lifelong friends. A Catholic priest or any Notary Public must notarize these affidavits.

5) Certificate of Attendance from the Engaged Encounter Retreat.

6) Marriage License from the State of California.

7) If either the bride or groom was in a prior Marriage of any kind, or live with someone else in a common law union, canonical dispensations or annulments are required. In this case, no date for the wedding can be set until the dispensations are granted.


Financial Information:


Church: $500 (includes the church donation to help cover the expenses of operating and keeping the parish buildings and programs and a stipend for 2 altar servers. This does not include the stipend for the musicians and singers.

Wedding Coordinator: $150 (payable to the coordinator).

Engaged Encounter Retreat: $160 (payable to the organizers of the retreat).

The Church stipend should be paid no later than a month before the wedding. The priest gives his service freely. If you like, you may choose to give him an expression of your gratitude in word and gift.
