Baptism
There are two rites of Baptism:
One rite for children up to seven years of age.
One rite for children over seven years of age and adults.
Baptism For Children
Parents who bring children for Baptism meet first with the Pastoral Associate
to discuss the importance of the sacrament and what is expected of them as parents.
Guidelines for Godparents are:
- The Catholic person chosen to be a Godparent must be sixteen years of age or older; have received Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist; and if married, it must be a sacramental marriage.
- A Christian of another Faith tradition may be chosen to be a witness to the Baptism.
All parties attend a class held on the first Sunday of each month at 2 pm in the Saint Finbar School library.
The Sacrament is celebrated in Saint Finbar Church at 11 am on the second Saturday of each month.
A donation of $100 is suggested.
Baptism for Adults
This takes place within a process known as RCIA.
First Reconciliation and First Communion
School age children may begin their preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist by enrolling in the Religious Education Program.
Children will be placed in a grade level program with a certified catechist.
Parents, as the primary educators of their children, will be involved in their immediate preparation for these sacraments.
Attendance at Mass and all parent meetings coupled with student participation in the classroom during a two-year period qualify the child for the reception of these sacraments.
RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
Christian Initiation is a process that begins with Inquiry into the Catholic Faith and culminates with the reception Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at an Easter Vigil.
The first step is a personal interview with the pastor or the pastoral associate.
Sessions for adults are held each Wednesday at 7 pm in the Faith Formation Office.
Children, ages 7 though 17, gather with their parents on Saturday at 4pm in the Faith Formation Office.
